Common Mistakes to Avoid
Confusing megabits (Mb) and megabytes (MB)
Fix: Internet speeds are measured in megabits per second (Mbps), but file sizes are in megabytes (MB). 1 byte = 8 bits, so a 100 MB file is 800 Mb. Always multiply MB by 8 before dividing by Mbps.
Expecting the advertised speed in real downloads
Fix: ISPs advertise "up to" speeds, and real throughput is often 70-90% of the advertised rate due to overhead, Wi-Fi loss, and server limits. Use 80% of your plan speed for realistic estimates.
Forgetting about shared bandwidth
Fix: If other devices or people are using the same connection, your download will be slower. The calculator assumes the full speed is available for this one download.
