Common Mistakes to Avoid

Including a non-existent score as zero

Fix: Leave a blank field empty rather than entering 0. A 0 drags the average down, while an empty field is simply excluded from the count.

Averaging percentages from different totals as if equal

Fix: A 90% on a 20-point quiz and a 90% on a 100-point exam are not equally weighted. Use the weighted grade calculator when point totals differ.

Dropping the lowest score without recalculating the count

Fix: If you drop the lowest score, you must also reduce the divisor. Dividing by the original count understates the adjusted average.
